Download “Consensus-Based Recommendations for the Diagnosis & Management of Dentin
Hypersensitivity,” a new report by a team of academic leaders which provides an
authoritative analysis of the condition. A recent survey found that 79 percent of dental
professionals believe the prevalence of the dentin hypersensitivity is increasing; however,
many professionals do not routinely screen for it, causing the problem to regularly go
undiagnosed. To address this issue and provide practitioners with a clear understanding of
how to treat the condition, GlaxoSmithKline provided a grant to the Medical College of Georgia
School of Dentistry, resulting in the publication of this report. The findings explain how
modern lifestyles are leading to an emerging set of dental concerns, including gingival
recession and acid wear, both of which contribute to dentin hypersensitivity.
